Objectives

Reporting directly to the Managing Director (MD), the objective of this role is to consolidate juwi’s position as a leader in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of PV and PV+BESS+Wind projects in South Africa. This requires the origination of and closing sales for EPC services for Solar PV for both government (REIPPPP) and private PPA opportunities, with the successful candidate bringing leading commercial experience and acumen to the role.  
The role requires that the services are highly competitive and sought after in the various segments within which the Company participates.
The Head of BD needs to ensure that the business development team is adequately resourced to meet the needs of origination, sales and conversion through the internal project Gates process, and that the interfaces to the EPC PMs, Project Development, Supply Chain, Legal, Corporate Controlling, Finance, Engineering and other departments are effective and efficient.

 Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to remain competitive in the REIPPPP and private PPA markets,
  • Identify, engage and sell services to IPPs and energy intensive users where possible,
  • Participate in and secure projects in South African government tenders,
  • Ongoing general market intelligence – pricing, regulatory, risks etc,
  • Work with our partners to identify new business models and channels to open the private sector uptake of renewables projects, be it via direct PPAs, wheeling arrangements, or direct capital investment types of deals with related financing arrangements,
  • Oversight of the structuring of transactions while interfacing closely with the specific project team members,
  • Coordinating all aspects of the deal execution process, including negotiations and finalization of all project and financing agreements,
  • Managing the development and maintenance of the various financial models necessary for juwi’s business models,
  • Supporting the optimization of any bid scorecard, as required,
  • Develop an understanding of the competitive position of thermal and storage technologies and related models and strategies, to inform whether to compete or collaborate as appropriate,
  • Assist the MD with reporting into the Regional Director and Head Office – strategy development, project reporting, workshops etc,
  • Actively finding and developing mechanisms to improve Team effectiveness,
  • In addition to the duties mentioned above, the job holder is required to carry out other duties that are in essence part of his/her area of activity, according to his/her knowledge and abilities.
 
 

Your Profile

Qualifications, Experience

  • Proven track record of sales of utility-scale energy projects or similar,
  • Proven record of management of business development or sales teams,
  • Suitable Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree,
  • Strong commercial mindset with a solid knowledge of Project and Corporate Finance concepts,
  • Strong and proven project management experience,
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing time demands,
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the South African Renewable Energy Project Development and/or EPC Sales sector,
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills,
  • Strong understanding of the renewable energy industry, its drivers, KPIs and decision processes,
  • Strong existing network in the South African renewable energy sector,
  • Excellent oral and written communication,
  • Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.

Desirable Attributes
  • Innovative/problem solving approach,
  • Experience working for an IPP or lender,
  • Financial modelling experience,
  • Experience with CRM/Sales Tools,
  • Understanding of utility regulatory environment,
  • Ability to travel to project sites and juwi headquarters in Germany when required.
